Kari Obermeyer, DVM - Owner

goldsboro nc veterinarianDr. Kari Obermeyer is a General Practitioner who has been the owner of Goldsboro Veterinary Hospital since April of 2010.

When asked what influenced her to become a veterinarian, Dr. Obermeyer says, "I have always loved animals since I was young and I have been lucky enough to turn my passion into a career. Now that I am a veterinarian I love being an advocate for animals since they are unable to speak for themselves. I am happy that I can provide high quality, progressive medical care for the pets we see."

Originally from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Dr. Obermeyer attended the University of Guelph for her undergraduate studies and majored in Biomedical Sciences. After two years, she was accepted at the Ontario Veterinary College where she graduated with honors after earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. After graduation, she completed a one-year internship in emergency medicine and then spent the next five years working as an emergency practitioner.

Dr. Obermeyer is a member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.

At home, she has a Jack Russell terrier named Binky, a Lab mix named Star, a beagle mix named Elsa, and five cats: Harry, Ozwald, Seven, Phantom, and Pepper. All of her pets are rescues either from work or a shelter. Dr. Obermeyer's interests include triathlons (she competed in the Lake Placid Iron Man in July of 2011), reading, hiking, horseback riding, and running, which includes marathons and half marathons.

Renee Fahrenholz, DVM

vets in goldsboro ncDr. Fahrenholz is a general practitioner who grew up in Western Michigan. She spent a lot of her childhood working with her uncle who owns a mixed animal practice in Indiana. Dr Fahrenholz has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was five years old. She received her bachelor's degree in Feed Science from Kansas State University, graduating with honors. In 2012 she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University and moved to North Carolina when her husband accepted a job in Raleigh.

Dr. Fahrenholz has special professional interest in exotic animal medicine, nutrition and internal medicine. She is an active member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association and the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association.

At home Dr Fahrenholz has 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 rabbits, 2 lizards and a tortoise. Dr Fahrenholz enjoys spending time hiking and kayaking with her husband; she is a certified scuba diver and also enjoys beach volleyball. Dr Fahrenholz and her husband are avid Big 12 sports fans and enjoy spending time with extended family. Dr Fahrenholz joined Goldsboro Veterinary Hospital in March of 2013.

Brianne Smithonic, DVM

Brianne SmithonicPennsylvania native Dr. Brianne Smithonic began working as a veterinarian at Goldsboro Veterinary Hospital in March 2015. Dr. Smithonic's professional interests include surgery and preventative medicine, but her favorite part of the job involves working directly with clients.

"I love educating our clients on how to keep their pets healthy, so they can live long and happy lives," Dr. Smithonic said.

She gained her Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University in 2009. During her time as an undergraduate Dr. Smithonic was a member of the Pre-Vet Club, as well as Thon, which is the largest student-run philanthropic organization in the world, raising funds and awareness for the fight against childhood cancer. Dr. Smithonic went on to be awarded her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, graduating with high honors. She is a member of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association.

At home she cares for two pets: a Boxer named Frank and a Dutch Rabbit named Baby Huey. In her free time Dr. Smithonic enjoys tennis, skiing, watching and cheering on Penn State football, and going on adventures with her dog.
